It is based upon a novel that was written by Max Brooks in 2006. The book was very successful, which lead to an audiobook version. The film version of the book was produced by Paramount Pictures on an estimated budget of 125 million, and it was released June 2013. The movie is 116 minutes long, and was filmed in Scotland, England and Hungary. It stars Brad Pitt, Matthew Fox, James Badge Dale and Mireille Enos. World War Z grossed around 540 million at the box office, with 25 million just on the first day alone. It pulled in 45 million dollars during its first weekend at the box office. Movie Summary

A zombie epidemic breaks out all over the world. Zombies are biting people, which creates even more infectious zombies. The movie follows the journey of an ex UN inspector and his family’s battle to escape zombie annihilation. The movie characters are trying to find out what caused the initial outbreak and stop it from spreading.

Cast and Characters

Brad Pitt is the main character and plays an ex United Nations investigator who moves involuntarily around the globe trying to find out what caused the zombie epidemic. His wife is played by Mireille Enos. Daniella Kertesz plays the solider that is identified as Segen. There are other UN and governmental officials in the movie that are played by different actors and actresses.

Reviews

Just like most movies that are inspired by novels, World War Z is said to deviate a lot from the original book. However, no one can deny that it is a fast paced movie that is exciting, dramatic, graphic and fun to watch. It is a dark movie that many film critics also seem to like. Many give it three out of four stars. Critics view World War Z as a thrill a minute suspenseful zombie movie. Brad Pitt is given credit for a very good performance that adds positively to the viewer experience. The film won a Saturn Award for Best Thriller Film.

A Possible Sequel?

There has been talk that there will be a sequel to World War Z. As a matter of fact, the movie was going to be the first of a series of movies. However, there were plenty of production problems with the first movie. So, many were speculating that there might not be a sequel. But a director has been chosen, and the new script is in the process of being written.
