Is Showtime’s Dexter Six Feet Under

Crime series will make your boring night on the couch more exciting! One series that holds a great deal of promise is Showtime’s “Dexter” and the plot will actually keep your attention, while you help solve a crime. Are you ready for a bloody good tv show?

Showtime’s Dexter has been received in a positive light, by many of the tv critics. This series has a nice twisted plot with a serial killer going after the monsters of society. It is hard to consider Dexter a hero, but you find yourself liking him as a character. Dexter(Michael C. Hall) plays the role of a serial killer, who works as a forensic’s analyst. His specialty is blood stain pattern analysis. Dexter works for the Miami-Dade Police Department and who would not want to live in Miami! Palm trees, girls in bikinis, and serial killings. What a tropical paradise!

A serial killer is an expert at fitting in and I like to call it, “Perfect Camouflage.” Although there is usually something that can make the killer slip up. Dexter is not your average serial killer, because he kills for a different reason. I think motivation is vital to understanding the serial killer’s mindset. Dexter has a chilling perspective and possible control over the outcome of a murder investigation. Not to mention, Dexter can make sure the killers never get out of jail and repeat the same crimes over again.

Nothing can make parents more furious, then child molesters or serial killers slipping through the cracks of the so-called justice system. The concept of being able to clean up your own crime scene and using that knowledge to cover your tracks, gives a serial killer one powerful edge. A killer could easily evade investigators for a long time with forensic knowledge and carefully planning the death of his next victim.

Sho.com(Official Showtime Site) has an array of choices to get involved in the “Dexter” madness. You can play a game where you will find clues hidden around a serial killer’s home. You will have access to Dexter’s victim files, where you will get all the gory details about the slain victims. If that is not enough to feed your killer appetite, then you can learn from blood spatter 101. This is your opportunity to study the gruesome art of blood spatter analysis. Are you ready? Come on now! Chop! Chop!

As I was researching Dexter on the internet, I found a website about a Dexter book. Upon closer examination, I noticed the name Jeff Lindsay and I never have heard of him before. He authored the book, “Darkly Dreaming Dexter”, which is the basis for the Dexter series. Jeff Lindsay has given us a psychopath who is so unusual, yet he is entirely likable. Dexter’s standards reach out to stop criminals dead in their tracks and he has a soft spot for children. Hence, his strong dislike for child molesters and making sure they are six feet under.

Dexter goes into a world of self-exploration and is able to play-act at being normal. What is normal? Dexter brings us into his world through his eyes as an outsider. Incidentally, the cover for Jeff Lindsay’s, “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” has a knife with blood on it. If you look closely at the blood on the knife, you will see a smiley face. What a beautiful way to express dark humor, while waking the curiosity of the reader.

I am applauding Showtime for bringing this “Darkly Dreaming Dexter” to life! I will forever love CSI(Original Series) and you really get involved in solving the crimes. You will get to enjoy a similar experience with Dexter, but with a forensic serial killer’s twist. I think it is wise to be aware of our surroundings so that if a crime does occur, we have more than a blurred memory to offer investigators. It is easy to rush through life and miss some crucial details around us each day. Computers now list the child molesters in your community and in most post offices you will see a list of predators. Should you take the time to familiarize yourself with these criminals? Absolutely!
