A new action adventure movie Tomorrow When The War Began is based on the book of the same name written by Australian writer John Marsden to appeal to young adults. Aussie Stuart Beattie of “Pirates of the Caribbean; The Curse of the Black Pearl” and “Australia” fame wrote the screenplay for the movie and is also the director.

It stars mostly young Australian actors, the most well known being soapie stars Caitlin Stasey, who plays the role of the main female lead, Ellie; and Lincoln Lewis who plays the part of Kevin. Rachel Hurd-Wood an English actress of “Peter Pan” and “Dorian Gray” fame plays the role of Ellie’s good friend Corrie.

The film was shot in Australia in the New South Wales Hunter Valley area. It is the story about seven teenagers who go away on a camping trip for a week to a remote area of bushland called “Hell” and on returning home find their homes have been deserted, their families missing and their animals dead or dying.

Upon further investigation which puts them in a lot of danger, they discover that the country has been invaded by an unknown enemy force and their families are being kept under guard in tents in the towns showground. They have to decide their best course of action and decide to return to “Hell” or risk being captured themselves. They take as many supplies as they can with them, and once settled in try to come up with a plan for not only their survival but a plan that can disrupt the enemies hold on their town.

There’s a lot of suspense in the film as the teens put themselves in danger in order to find out what’s going on in the town and also using guerrilla tactics to defend themselves against soldiers and disrupt the enemy’s stronghold on the town.

You also see how each character develops as they are pushed to their limits trying to fight for their freedom and that of their town and families. The Tomorrow Movie is an action packed adventure movie with a little bit of romance thrown in for good measure. It has been made to target the young adult audience but the story will appeal to a wider group of movie goers.
