Movie Review – The Blind Side (2009)

Okay. I’ll say it right up front – I’m not a big fan of football. In actually, I can’t stand to watch it at all. But, I am a big fan of movies about football players and The Blind Side, staring Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw is one of them.

What’s interesting, is this movie is based on a true story about Michael Oher. He plays for an NFL team and his first contract was for millions of dollars. As you watch the movie, you find out that he was from a very troubled neighborhood and had a terrible home life. He was homeless for some time as a teenager and was given shelter by a couple in the Memphis area.

Of course, you can’t always trust what you see in the movies. His true life story would be interesting to see – maybe he will write an autobiography some day. The world he and his adoptive family live in is quite foreign to me. The idea of going away to college sounds terrible. I finished my degree only because of online colleges – if not for distance education, I would have dropped out after my first semester.

Nonetheless, this movie is a great story, whether you are a football fan or not. Sandra Bullock does a great job and, surprisingly, so does McGraw. Who would have thought a singer could act? I would put this movie on your wish list for the next rainy day. I think you will like it.
