Jessica Jones Season 2: Rachael Taylor Hopeful for Hellcat Storyline

Marvel’s Jessica Jones was a big hit for Netflix; following on from Daredevil, and setting things up nicely for the Luke Cage series which is set to arrive later in 2016. In fact, Marvel has quite the slate of shows lined up for Netflix, including another Daredevil season as well as Iron Fist and The Defenders(dates to be announced), and it’s no surprise that a second Jessica Jones season was ordered too.

Gritty, raw, and undeniably real, Marvel managed to paint superheroes as flawed, everyday individuals and deadly villains as people you’d like to get coffee with, until you realized what they were capable of. One of the many highlights of Jessica Jones was undoubtedly the strong friendship between Jessica and her childhood best friend, Trish Walker.

The character of Trish is based on Patsy Walker (her child star name in the show), the Marvel comics character better known as Hellcat. Played by Rachael Taylor, Trish did not assume her superhero alter-ego during the first season, but there were hints about her possibly doing so in the future; not least in her desire to fight for justice alongside Jessica. Now Taylor has discussed that relationship dynamic a little more, in an interview with CBR News.

Discussing the “imperfect relationship” between Trish and Jessica, Taylor referenced the hints of jealousy we saw between the two in season one; particularly in the way Trish upped her fight training in an effort to stand alongside Jessica on more equal footing:

I think Trish would really like to see Jessica use her gifts, her superhero powers, to a greater extent than what she probably does. I think Trish is very much an alpha personality type. I think she’s a very ambitious woman. And I think probably, if she had the same superhero powers that Jessica had, she thinks that she would probably do a lot more with them.”

“I mean, I try not to get ahead of myself and think about it too much, because it’s easy to get carried away and think about things. I already feel like I have more than my share, in a way, being on Netflix, being in the Marvel Universe, being in this show that has resonated so deeply with people. But of course, I mean, it would be amazing. I mean, it’s already a privilege to play a history that has so much lineage within the Marvel Universe. And to take it that one step further is something that, yeah, I’d love to get my teeth stuck into whatever happens to the character.”
