Jim Carrey has become quite an accomplished actor ever since he hit the big screen in the early 1980s. Although Carry did some early films but really became a household name on Mad TV. It was here that he showed the world his true talent and quirky physical comedy which would catapult his career. He went on to play some of our favorite roles as Ace Ventura and Llyod Christmas (Dumb & Dumber). A Christmas Carol (2009)
Disney’s retelling of the Charles Dickens novel stars Jim Carrey, Jim Carrey and well Jim Carrey. The story is about Scrooge and how bitter he became about the wonderful Christmas holiday. Jim Carrey plays a number of characters in this movie thanks to the magic of animation and make-up. He plays; Scrooge, Ghost of Christmas Past, Scrooge as a Young Boy, Scrooge as a Teenage Boy, Scrooge as a Young Man, Scrooge as a Middle-Aged Man, Ghost of Christmas Present, Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. This movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis (Back to The Future, The Polar Express) and contains some truly amazing effects. Great film to watch around the holidays but might be a little scary for small children.
I Love You Phillip Morris (2009)
Jim Carrey plays Steven Jay Russell who is a con-man telling his life story while on his deathbed. Russell began his adult life as a happily married police officer who plays organ at the church and spends most of his free time looking for his biological mother. After Russell gets into a car accident, his life completely changes. He leaves his wife to find his true self as a gay man and moves to Miami to live a lavish lifestyle. Russell soon finds out that it is difficult to keep up with this expensive lifestyle causing him to become a con-man. Russell ends up getting caught and sent to prison where he meets and falls in love with Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). Realizing his love for Morris, Russell will go to great lengths to be with his true love. This movie might not be Carrey’s best work but it has a few laughs.
Yes Man (2008)
Jim Carrey plays Carl Allen who is a down on his luck banker with an extremely ordinary life. Carl attends a motivational seminar in which everyone is encouraged to say “yes” to everything. Although skeptical Carl adopts this mantra and finds that his who world turns upside down. He gets a promotion at work and a beautiful new girlfriend. Although life seems to be looking up, Carl quickly finds that the new lifestyle that he has adopted is impossible to maintain. Carry returns to his happy go lucky comedic acting and performs quite well in this movie. The feel of the movie is very similar to Bruce Almighty which he starred in five years prior. The movie was very predictable but is worth a watch if you have nothing to do on a Friday night.
