What Would Your Top 3 Sci Fi Movies Be?

0

There have been many science fiction movies made over the last 40 years or so. However it was the collaboration between Arthur C Clarke and Stanley Kubrick to create 2001 A Space Odyssey, which really brought the idea of travelling in space to life for moviegoers in the late 60’s. It can be hard to pick just three films when asked to choose your favourite sci fi films but I have tried.

1.Blade Runner
This movie is based on a short story by Arthur C Clarke and is set in the year 2019, it is directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford. The film was released in 1982 but today when it rains many of the biggest cities around the world have the same feel to them as in the movie. In Times Square New York there are video billboards whilst in Tokyo as in the movie the traffic moves at a crawl and no pavements can be seen because of the people walking on them. As you look at these places for real you can see them also appearing in this movie.

2.The Running Man
This film was released in 1987 and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is set in the year 2019, which doesn’t seem so long away now of course. People are chased down and killed for the entertainment of the masses. Like with so many sci fi films you can actually see how we could go down this path, just look at the amount of reality shows on TV already and each one is trying to be more shocking than the next one.

3.Logans Run
If the world can no longer sustain all the people in it, what do you do, easy you kill off everyone over 30. That is the basic story line of this film from 1976 film and set in the 23rd century. As the world gets more and more congested maybe we will see people talking about some variation of this idea. While it may have seemed futuristic for 1976, today it seems almost believable.
