When you’re excitedly planning your next adventure there isn’t much better than watching some great road trip movies to get you excited and thinking about things you’d like to do. The movies listed here are all very different, to give you a selection of different moods to choose from, but they all have one thing in the common-a love for adventure.
Vacation is one of the ultimate classics and a great one to get this list started. If you haven’t seen it, you’re really missing out. It’s a comedy starring Chevy Chase from the early 1980s that follows a family trying to get to a theme park for their vacation.
Little Miss Sunshine is a more recent family comedy with a very different feel from the one above. This family of misfits takes off on a long trip in the US to get to a southern California beauty pageant the daughter made it into. They make the trip with their uncle who just got out of a mental hospital after recently attempting suicide and their grandfather in a big yellow VW bus.
The Motorcycle Diaries follows a set of friends setting out with adventure on their minds, riding an old motorcycle through South America. This is the telling of Che Guevara’s youth, an insight into how he came to be the well known person he became.
Into the Wild is still a road trip movie, but one of the few without a car or motorcycle as one of it’s characters. This is the true story of Chris McCandless, a young man who graduated college and instead of continuing onto graduate school took off to see the United States. For two years he travels around the country, by foot, kayak, or hitching a ride, until he ends up ultimately in Alaska, in the wild.
Hopefully the above road trip movies will help you get in the mood to take off on your next trip.
