Disney Channel star Sabrina Carpenter will sing “Smoke and Fire” the first track off her new album coming out later this year, on ABC’s “Live With Kelly and Michael” at 9 a.m. Thursday.
It will be the first time Carpenter, a Lower Milford Township native, will perform her new single on national television.
Carpenter also has released a video for the song, which was directed by Jessie Hill and shot in Los Angeles, on Vevo.
Carpenter stars in Disney Channel’s hit “Girl Meets World” in which she plays Maya Hart, best friend to Rowan Blanchard’s character Riley. The show, which began airing in 2014 and now is shooting it’s third season, is a spin-off of “Boy Meets World” featuring the original series’ actors Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel as the parents of the main character, Riley.
Carpenter also will return to her home state to perform at “Show of the Summer” Aug. 20 at Hershey Park Stadium, where she’ll share the stage with Shawn Mendes and Jack and Jack.
Carpenter and co-writer Ido Zmishlany, who also produced “Smoke and Fire,” wrote most of the song during a five-hour writing session in Los Angeles on the night they met, eventually finishing it in New York. Now based in Los Angeles-based, Carpenter released her debut album, “Eyes Wide Open” in April 2015.
Carpenter says “Smoke and Fire” is “about the experience and the feelings you have in the aftermath of a relationship’s end.”
“With the first album, I couldn’t touch on that subject in an honest way because I hadn’t experienced it,” she says.
Her first album, which has amassed over 33 million streams combined on Spotify and includes singles “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying,” “Middle of Starting Over,”“Eye Wide Open” and “We’ll Be The Stars” many of them co-written by Carpenter.
